Chladni Plate

Frequencies and their geometric shape

A vibrating plate.

Here I found an old World War II era speaker and attached a piece of sheet metal to the cone of the speaker.

Every frequency has a certain geometric shape. A Chladni Plate allows you to see what that geometric shape look like.

Salt or sand is put on the sheet metal and when a frequency is played through the speaker the plate vibrates and creates that specific geometric pattern!

Hear and see the plate in action!

Examples of certain frequencies and their shape.
